Hi all,

I am running a Ruby website on a hosted Linux server.  I was wondering - is there a way to run IDE running on my Windows desktop and connect it to the Ruby application on the Linux server?

Hope somebody can help!

Thanks,

Neil.

No, that would be totally insecure and totally unnecessary and may even leadto code changes being made on the live site which would be a total nightmare. DON'T EVEN THINK that is a good option, it's just wrong on every level.

Why would you want to do that?

If something is not working then you have a number of options

1) You could write a test for the the problem and fix it. That way you will know if the problem ever re-occurs,

2) You can interrogate the log files on the production environment to see what is happening,

tail -f production.log

3) If you have a decent host, someone like railsplayground, you could have a chat with live support and ask for help if you are really struggling.

But whatever is going on should be easily re-producible on your dev machine and dealt with there.

Programming is just about problem solving!
