ruby useful for non-db website

Newbie question- is the ruby on rails platform overkill for someone who just wants to create a website that displays information, perhaps with javascript enhanced ui. That is, a site that doesn't require user input or db backend. Or, does the framework offer development benefits for these sites too?

What are your alternatives? Why would you want to use Rails (i.e. which of the benefits of Rails do you think you'd like?)


Having said that, I use Rails now for most things - because at least I know I can add more functionality if I need it...

I use Rails for just about anything these days.  It's just easier that way.
