Greetings $/| salutations

If I do the following :

$ bundle install --without production
$ bundle update
$ bundle install

Does the following happen:

  1. Bundler installs the Gems as specified by the Gemfile (excluding production Gems)
  2. Bundler then checks to see which Gems have been updated
  3. Bundler installs the updated Gems (excluding production Gems [it remembers to exclude them])

?

Why not simply go

$ bundle update
$ bundle install --without production

?

Much obliged,

o

bundle update

will update and install all gems that suit the current dependencies of all gems, so you don't have to run

bundle install

afterwards.

So really I just need one line.

If I enter:

bundle update --without production

will it exclude production gems?

No, but as you wrote originally it will remember the without argument.

If you do

bundle install --without production

the gems in the production group will not get installed so a

bundle update

at a different time will not update them, because they aren't there.
