Hi,

Just to preface, I'm a total newbie so please bear with me.  Thanks.  Now, moving right along...

I have LAMP set up on my Ubuntu 13.10 local machine so I can work with PHP files.  Can I use this same (or similar) set up to work with RoR applications?  If so, can you anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

For Rails on you local machine under development you just cd into the root folder for your app and run the command

rails s

That's it

How would you set it up under a production server?

That depends on the server configuration you wish to use. I use to use apache with passenger but I exclusively use nginx and unicorn now. You need to follow whatever instructions for whatever O.S. and server configuration you choose which may well be limited by your host.
