Ok, I am a novice RoR dev and want to get better.  What I am looking for isn't code examples rather steps to take.

I have been through the examples on the: https://github.com/Dwolla/dwolla-ruby/ gem.  I am just not 100% how to implement in a rails project.

The way I see it working is:

New User case:

  1. Clicks a signup button
  2. Signs up (user is created in the db / no dwolla account yet.  I can use a basic auth gem.)
  3. User is asked to add Bank info (dwolla account created.  I assume this is a before_update on the User model. THIS IS WHERE I NEED THE MOST HELP...   )

I am new to working with external stuff like Dwolla.  So anything you can share is super helpful.

thanks in advance.

After some more looking my premise will not work.

  1. User can sign in to my site, but that can't create a dwolla account for them.
  2. They need to secondarily create a Dwolla account.
  3. Then I can have a button that "connects" the accounts.  The user clicks it, an oAuth call is made to the Dwolla site, the users sees a popup (similar to a facebook permissions dialog) they approve the connection.
  4. Once approved I would "add" their dwolla user token to their user record in the db

Does this make more sense?

again, thanks for the help, I am new to connecting with external apis.
