A few of the major drawbacks would be that Flash doesn't always work well on user's systems, if you don't know Flash you cannot alter anything later and search engines don't read flash, which can make it difficult for them to rank your website properly.

Another really big one is that Apple tablets and phones can't view it. Even Android tablets that can view it suffer from massive battery drain while using Flash. While Flash is super easy to develop, HTML5 is definitely a better route to go. Every modern browser and device is capable of displaying it.

There are many drawbacks to using flash to build a site. Some of them are as follows:
Browsers don't display Flash natively - they need a plugin.
Accessibility - screen readers generally can't access them and the browser Back Button doesn't work with flash pages.
Search engines - No alt text and other text is mostly not available (Though Google can now parse some text in flash)
Bulk & speed - Flash sites generally need to fully download before they can be used, they are generally highly graphical and bulkier than HTML websites resulting in much slower experience for the end user
Flash blockers - Many people install FlashBlock addons to prevent flash advertising etc when they surf.

Flash Websites tend to take longer to load than those that do not. If your Website takes too long to load, you may lose potential visitors. Also, big disadvantage is the requirement of a flash player to be installed for watching flash movies. If the player is not installed the user will experience certain inconveniences, as he will be encouraged to click on the link to flash player download page.

According to SEO purpose flash website can not be read by the search engine and also it increases the loading time so flash website is not preferred.

Flash website takes times to load as it file size is quite large. This is will lead for negative impact on search engine ranking. And user also lost interest in visiting the web site again.

The more you add flash the contents the more it gets slower. A site can get affected in many ways depending on the speed of loading

Problem with using Flash is that it makes it difficult to optimize for search engines. In fact, some search engines cannot read any text that is created with Flash. As a result, using flash may result in a decrease in search engine ranking because the search engine spiders will not be able to crawl over the essential keywords that have been written in Flash.

Search engines crawl text, not Flash intros and banners. It’s tough to get an all-Flash website to rank high in search engines. Search engines have problems indexing images, even text rendered as an image. HTML pages get indexed in search engines like Google while Flash pages do not. This is a major reason not to use Flash.
