because the content is contained in a proprietary binary file instead of in HTML markup, it would be extremely inefficient and difficult to try and parse out textual content from the binary flash file format.

I agree with thought that Flash is very useful for web designing. But is not so good for SEO. Flash-based websites are becoming more important and popular on the Internet. If your website is based on Flash, it is possible that there are some crawling problems that lead to decreased indexed, which can affect search engine traffic.

Flash websites are not that search engine friendly, hence the efforts of ranking a flash website are often much higher than that of a regular website. Some SEO issues with the Flash Website are:
1) Single URL issue
2) Graceful Degradation
3) Less-user friendly
4) On-Page Optimization Suffers

It can be handy for web designing as long as you're not targeting tablet users. Or mobile users. Or anyone using an Android device. I believe this weekend marked the death of mobile flash for Android. That, and as we all know, it never quite made it into the iOS ecosystem. As long as your demographic is comprised entirely of desktop users, you're fine using it!
I would just avoid it.

Flash based website is not Good For SEO point of view as it has only one URL, and many other Problems like loading time, Content Problem, Browser Compatibility and need special plugin for surfing Flash based websites so i prefers HTML based WebSite for batter SEO results.

Fash and SEO haven’t been the perfect pair. Flash limits the amount of text search engines can crawl, making it extremely difficult for them to understand your site. Consequently, many flash based sites sacrifice rankings for design.

There are so many reasons to avoid the use of flash, and personally I don't like to use of flash on web site because,
1) Search engine can't crawl. Flash to figure out what is in that area.
2) It doesn't provide essential for SEO because it doesn't provide unique URls for the different pages on our site.
3) There are so many factors in Google search engine algorithm and one of them are a site's loading time and Flash sites are slower to load because the browser which we are using has to load the flash player and the entire flash section of the web site.
This is the main three reasons as per my personal thinking to avoid the use of the Flash on web site for the seo purpose.

Search Engines can't read flash files, that's the reason flash based websites face problem with crawling.
