I'm looking for a good Rails IDE for Windows. At the moment I'm using RadRails and it's a great IDE but writing code is tiresome. From Visual C++ (with the Visual Assist plug-in) I'm used to code-completion and writing without code-completion (if you're used to it) is a pain.
Is there any ide (or a plug-in for radrails) with code-completion?

I'm looking for something almost identical to textmate (but for windows). Currently using the RubyWeaver extension for dreamweaver and it does its best at code completion but its far from ideal.
If you're looking for something identical to textmate, there's the e editor. It's not exactly the same, but it's the closest you can get from what I hear.
Ryan - that is brilliant. I've been looking for something like that since I first saw Textmate. I'm very happy now 
When I'm using the generators inside "e" (I'm starting it through cygwin) nothing happens.
Is there a place where I can look for errors?
This IDE looks really cool, but I can't believe that it offers everything in the feature list, that would be awesome.
Edit:
It looks like it has no rails support. But I suppose I can run the rails tools from the console window inside the ide and have full support while editing the different rails files.
The code completion which I excpected is not there, but I think this is because ruby is too dynamic for code completion.

If you are using Visual Studio, you can use Ruby In Steel (I'm one of its developers). This has code colouring/folding, integrated debugging (drag+drop watch variables, step-into/over etc.) for Ruby and for Rails. Thre are two editions, the Personal Edition is free. The Developer Edition is our commercila release. The Developer Edition includes true (code analysing) IntelliSense with code completion, parameter tooltips, snippets, keyword-end matching etc. plus a very fast debugger.

Your IDE is really really great (and I'm saying that just after watching the screencasts).
But unfortunately as a student I can't afford the professional edition. I'm trying to try the personal edition for now, but it seems that it's not meant to run with the vc++05 express edition.
And why do I need both mysql and ms sql server?
Believe me, we'd love to make our free version work with the Express Edition but Microsoft hasn't made that possible :-( As student though, you should be able to get a very good deal on an academic release of VS 2005 Professonal (I think you can get a copy for somewhere betweem $50 and $60).
You don't need MySQL and SQLServer to use Ruby In Steel. You can choose either when working with Rails (or the free SQL Server Express). We have wizards built in to help you work with them both.

After some research I found out that the installation failed because the express edition have no add-in support and not because I don't have the ms sql server.
The student license (in Germany) is only for the standard edition for only 80$ the feature list is huge.

Huw: I watched your screencasts earlier out of interest and your software certainly looks good. Currently using e-texteditor which is nice for colour schemes and bundles. Previously, I used Zend Studio which has similar features to your plugin and I do miss some of things. If I used Visual Studio I might consider this, but I wouldn't pay for VS just to use it.
The name Huw is Welsh (and so am I).
Adam, I realise that anyone on a tight budget won't be able to afford Visual Studio. Naturally, our 'core market' are tose people (quite a large number, fortunately) who are already using Visual Studio. As I said, if we could provide a free or cheap edition for VS Express we would do so. But at the moment, this just isn't possible as the Express editions can't load third-party language packages.
If you are interested, I'd suggest you keep an eye out for some really interesting things that we'll be adding to Ruby In Steel this summer. These will go well beyond any Ruby and Rails development features provided by any other editor or IDE. Can't give too many details just now, though there are a few 'clues' in our Road Map.

I use e and cygwin. This comes close to OSX and Textmate. At least you can do things like people in screencasts do.
There's just one thing that I miss, and that's a debugger.

i love the current beta version of visual studio express 2008, especially because of its nice javascript support.
so my question is: is it true that i have to either buy visual studio or ruby in stell full version to get started? it seems like both free versions do and will never work together :-(
