I really liked the El Dorado esthetics but I have to agree with trevorturk that it is just for a small group of friends; you can't use it on a larger scale. I would really love a really stabile forum because with my last one I had some file extensions problems that I couldn't fix and lost all of the data. I'm still searching for a good, php based, forum template.

It also means that you can get started with El Dorado for free.

Heroku is totally awesome, BTW

Enjoy!

Hi trevorturk,

keep up the good work. I've been playing around with El Dorado since it was mentioned last year and I really like it, I'm glad to see its still being developed.

I have a few projects that will probably need a forum in the future and I'll definitely be using ED for them.

Is there anything innovative planned for this forum software or is it yet another forum software? I do not mean to sound negative but I would like to see something new in the forum arena.

Hi carlivar, I'm the author of El Dorado. Thanks very much for your post.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, but El Dorado isn't quite up to PunBB par just yet. PunBB is really something special. El Dorado is good enough for my small group of friends, which is why it's live on the site you linked to, but I don't know how it would hold up on a site as popular as this one.

Also, I'm envisioning El Dorado as something more than a forum. I'd like it to evolve into a full-stack community site, which is a different goal than something like PunBB has to be sure.

Finally, I believe the folks running this site are working on a forum app in Rails of their own.

All that being said, I hope that we'll find some intersection of the two projects that we'll all be able to benefit from. (Hooray for open-source!) For example, I think my importing rake tasks might help others trying to do similar stuff, although even those could use some improvements for sure.

As for me, I hope that we'll see something from the talented folk behind this site, which I plan on studying closely.
