That's fine as long as it's here first. I just don't want people posting stuff that was on their blog 3 months ago

I also don't think we'd mind if you gave yourself a byline in this instance, like:

"This tutorial was written by Jimbo from Jimbo's Awesome Super Happy Blog"

Usually we'd rather if you keep links back to your own blog in your signature, except when it makes sense to link (as in when posting a working example of something, etc.), but I'm prepared to make an exception for the contest.

If we can order from Apple in your country, you can enter.

And actually, if you live in some middle-of-nowhere place that Apple can't deliver to, and you write a kick-ass, winning tutorial, I'll pay to Fedex the prize to you.  There aren't too many place that Apple can't ship, though (at least not that would have Rails developers).  So this probably won't come up.

To celebrate our 500 member mark obtained yesterday, and in the interest of getting more good Ruby on Rails tutorials, Rails Forum is giving away an iPod shuffle to the best tutorial written between now and 12:01 AM GMT on November 1, 2006!

What do I need to do to enter?

Simple! Just post a tutorial in our Ruby on Rails Tutorials forum between now and the time above, and you'll be automatically entered!

The winner will be chosen by the Rails Forum administrators (myself, Josh, and Kelli). We will be judging tutorials based on 1. functionality, 2. usefulness, and 3. content (can we follow along easily?). Our judging will start once the final deadline passes, and we'll be done and announce a winner no later than November 15th.

What are the rules?

We have just a few simple rules for this competition:

1. No tutorial can be "redone". If it's on the forums it's off limits unless you go in a drastically different direction for a similar result.
2. Please have some sort of depth to your tutorials. A tutorial like "how to use script/plugin to install things" isn't going to get you the prize.
3. Please proofread your posts and test your code before hitting the Submit button. Massive edits after you initially post will get you disqualified.
4. This has to be a new tutorial. Don't just copy and paste something you wrote on your blog.

Other than that, you are pretty much free to do whatever you want.

What do we win?

You will win the new 1GB iPod shuffle, courtesy of Rails Forum. Everyone could use some good music when they're hacking
