Hi,
I'm learning Rails and can't figure out how to query the join table I created...

The join table is "galleries_pictures" and I am trying to retrieve all pictures from the selected gallery.

Controller:
@gallery = Gallery.where("minisection_id" => session[:minisection_id]).first
@pictures = Gallery.find(@gallery.id).pictures

View:
<% @pictures.each do |picture| %>
<%= image_tag picture.image_url %>
...
@gallery does contain the correct gallery, but @pictures returns empty even though there is a picture record in the table.

I need an activerecord query to Match ALL items in a params array.

My current method gives results based on finding any of the tags, not "MATCH ALL"

I was attempting to write it something like below, but it gives me no results, maybe someone can set me in the right direction. is there a way to say " AND "

ActiveRecord Float precision? How to represent $10 000.12

Hi Guys

I just viewed some weird behaviour. I have a model which includes a float. It seems that the precision of a floating point record is not very good. Pathetic actually. I use the model to keep track of money (mostly), and it loses precision pretty quickly: Check it:

Variable.create{:numval => 100.12} #works fine
puts Variable.last.numval returns
>> 100.12

Variable.create{:numval => 1000.12} #works fine also
puts Variable.last.numval returns
>> 1000.12

BUT
Variable.create{:numval => 10000.12} # STUFFS OUT MISERABLY
puts Variable.last.numval returns
>> 10000.1

and
Variable.create{:numval => 100000.12} # even worse
puts Variable.last.numval returns
>> 100000

I cant have an accounting solution that cant handle $10 000.12 ?????

I am aghast. My app has been deployed with 20 companies and now this?? WTH

PLEASE PLEASE tell me there is something simple I am missing?

Help with associations: User, Lecturer, Student and Event

Hi everyone,

I've googled, read the docs, and watched railscast, but I can't wrap my head around this.
Please help. I'm running the latest stable Rails and Ruby 1.9.3, on Ubuntu 13.04.

I have a User model, and an Event model.
Right now, there is a has_and_belongs_to_many relationship between the two.

In real life, however, a User relates to the Event as either a Lecturer or a Student.
A User can be both a Student and Lecturer, but not for the same event.
Lecturer or Student are not yet models in my app, and I'm unsure if they should be separate models.

I need help with implementing this logic.

What I want to achieve is something like this:

Event.first.lecturers # Should return Users that are Lecturers for this particular Event.

Event.first.students # Should return Users that are Students for this particular Event

User.first.events :as => :student # Should return Events for a particular User where the User is a Student

User.first.events :as => :lecturer # Should return Events for a particular User where the User is a Lecturer

I'm thinking perhaps a has_many :through association might work, but I'm so confused.

Any and all guidance appreciated.
